The Aptos layer-1 blockchain platform, created by former Facebook engineers, has set a new record in blockchain transactions. On May 25, Aptos recorded an impressive 115.4 million transactions in a single day, surpassing Solana’s 31.7 million transactions for the same period.
This spike in transaction volume established a new high-water mark, significantly exceeding the previous layer-1 record of over 65 million transactions held by Sui Network by more than 50%.
Data from Aptoscan reveals that the blockchain’s transaction throughput also hit an unprecedented level, reaching 32,000 transactions per second (TPS) on that day. This milestone highlights the increasing activity within the Aptos ecosystem, reflecting its growing adoption and the momentum in the blockchain industry.
The surge in transactions on Aptos is largely attributed to the debut of Tapos Cat, a new tap-to-earn game that quickly gained traction. On its first day on the mainnet, the game alone accounted for an impressive 10 million transactions, significantly boosting the platform’s overall activity.
In the Tapos Cat game, players can collect $HEART tokens by ‘tickling’ a digital cat, creating numerous transactions within the game. For the first 72 hours, the game provides a gas-free experience, enticing users to engage without incurring additional costs.
Aptos Labs Announces New Global Advisers, Collaborates with SK Telecom
Even with the substantial transaction volume, Aptos has sustained steady gas fees and success rates. This reliability is attributed to the Aggregator feature on the Aptos platform, which processes multiple transactions concurrently, delivering a smooth and efficient experience for users.
The CEO of Helius Labs has expressed skepticism about the longevity and practical usefulness of Tapos Cat, criticizing its focus on click-and-buy interactions as a strategy to artificially boost metrics rather than truly cater to user needs.
Though Tapos Cat may initially seem directionless, Aptos supporters argue that it plays a crucial role as an engineering project, showcasing the Aptos network’s robustness and scalability and setting the stage for future innovations.
Aptos Labs is steadfast in its mission to provide billions of people with access to decentralized assets. On May 9, the Aptos Labs team unveiled its new global advisers, including David Lawee, a former vice president of corporate development at Google.
In Nov 2023, Aptos Labs and Atomrigs Lab announced their collaboration with South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom (SKT) to launch a Web3 wallet service, T wallet.
