During a recent podcast appearance, MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor expressed optimism about the potential impact of ETH exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies. Speaking on the “What Bitcoin Did” podcast, Saylor predicted that Ethereum ETFs could encourage mainstream investors to allocate a higher percentage of their portfolios, ranging from 5% to 10%, compared to the current 1% allocation.
Saylor firmly believes that Bitcoin will account for up to 70% of this increased allocation, solidifying its position as the leader of the crypto asset class. He stated, “It might be better for Bitcoin because we are politically much more powerful…supported by the entire cryptocurrency industry…They have a lot of political power and users and serve as another line of defense for Bitcoin.”
This positive outlook comes after a surprising turn of events earlier this week when several Ethereum ETF issuers received approval for their 19b-4s listing requests. Previously, it was widely expected that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would reject these requests due to a lack of engagement, political pressure, and uncertainty surrounding the legal status of the Ether token.
Ethereum ETFs Set To Capture 25% Of Bitcoin ETF Demand
Bloomberg ETF expert James Seyffart believes that Ethereum ETFs could capture approximately 25% of the demand for the Bitcoin ETFs launched in January. However, it remains unclear when these Ethereum ETFs will begin trading, as the SEC must also approve the corresponding S-1 registration statements.
Saylor’s stance on Ethereum ETFs marks a significant shift from his previous predictions that Wall Street would never accept Ethereum due to its perceived status as a security. He had previously claimed that Bitcoin was the only “institutional grade crypto asset.”
The approval of Ethereum ETFs and Saylor’s changed perspective highlight the evolving landscape of crypto regulation and the potential for increased institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies beyond just Bitcoin.
