For Kabosu’s large fan base, who loved her for her charm and the happiness she offered to countless people all over the world, her quiet passing is a sad occasion. Kabosu’s owner, Atsuko Sato, shared heartbreaking news in a heartfelt post on her official blog, expressing deep gratitude for the immense love and support shown to Kabosu over the years.
The announcement comes after Sato’s update in Dec 2022, where she revealed that Kabosu’s health was in a critical condition. This news sparked an outpouring of support from the crypto community, including Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus, also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto.

As a result of Markus’s request, a kind supporter offered to pay for Kabosu’s medical care. This showed how much Kabosu meant to her followers and the larger community. Kabosu’s rise to internet fame started in 2010 when Atsuko Sato shared photos of her newly adopted Dogecoin on her blog. One image, featuring Kabosu with a skeptical yet curious expression, quickly went viral and gave birth to the “Doge” meme.
